A Brief History of Silver Creek Baptist Church
est. March 1814
Silver Creek Baptist Church was founded in March 1814. It was re-constituted in 1816. America itself was only 38 years old when 13 people met to organize Silver Creek Church. This makes us one of the oldest churches in Mississippi. In fact, the State of Mississippi was not founded until 1817, so our church is three years older than our state.
The original building was located on Silver Creek near Mt. Herman, Louisiana. Through the years it has moved to its current location. The members worshipped in two primitive hewn timber buildings before building a heart timber church in 1838. This building was used for 109 years until a block building replaced it in 1947. The block building served the membership for about 53 years before the current building was erected in 2000.
